World Wide Wrap, Sunday, February 1st

Join Jews around the world as we all share in one of our people’s great annual traditions. Learn how to put on tefillin and understand its significance and history. Don’t know how? Don’t worry! Seasoned veterans will be there to assist. Sandwich wraps (what else?) will be served to participants. The CAI Men's Club hosts this even at Agudath Israel the morning of Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, 10 am. Harvey Hershkowitz is available for more details: HSHINC@aol.com

Jan 22 Basketball Game CANCELLED

Due to a malfunction with one of the backboard motors at the JCC, CAI's game against Temple Ner Tamid, scheduled for Thursday, Jan 22, will be cancelled. (This is no doubt due to several of Mitch Gladstein's dunk attempts gone awry.) Additional information about a make-up game will follow as we hear from the commissioner. Unless otherwise informed, Agudath Israel will not be in action again until Thursday, February 5th when the team takes on Temple Shalom of Morris County.

The Men's Club Wants You...for Purim Festival!

The Men's Club plays a big part in the Purim festivities at Agudath Israel, and we could use your help! We are looking for volunteers to help with the carnival set up (Saturday night, March 7, followed by cold beverages at the Cloverleaf Tavern on Bloomfield Avenue) and people to run the carnival games and help us cook in the kitchen on Sunday, March 8, the day of the festivities. The carnival will run from 11 am to 2:45 pm.

Now that we're back in our new home, we're looking forward to jump-starting one of the most fun events of years past! Come join us! Contact club president Adam Shandler at adshandler@gmail.com to sign up!

WINEP's David Schenker to Speak at CAI

The Agudath Israel Men's Club is proud to sponsor a very important speaker.

Middle East expert and former Pentagon policy advisor David Schenker will discuss the latest developments in the region. Schenker will talk about the impact of the Israeli elections (slated for earlier in the day) and potential peace negotiations with the Palestinians in light of the recent conflict in Gaza. He will also survey Iranian progress on its nuclear weapons program and what it means for the region.

Currently, Mr. Schenker is the Director of Arab Politics at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. His advisements guide both U.S. military and political activity in the Middle East region. While working in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in 2005, Mr. Schenker was awarded the Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service in 2005.

Come hear the real story about what's going on in the Middle East from a real insider!

Tuesday, February 10th, 8 pm. Admission is $5.00, payable at the door.

CAI Men's Club Basketball Update

Our three-peat campaign is in jeopardy! The Agudath Israel Men's Club Basketball Team is having its struggles against Jerusalem Division competition this year. We've amassed a lowly 0-4 record after falling to the JCC Team by a score of 59-41. Some bright spots in this last game included some nifty experiments with the give-and-go and baseline screens on offense and surprisingly effective 2-1-2 zone defense in the second half. Center David Kerner, pictured, recorded his fourth straight game as CAI's leading scorer with 13. Captain Adam Shandler had 12 and Rich Gilbert, who played all five positions on the floor at one time or another charted 8.

Our next game is Thursday, January 22 at 8:15, at the West Orange JCC.
