Men's Club Purim Kitchen Patrol - March 4

It's that time of year again. Purim. And that could mean only one thing. Hamantaschen. Okay, two things. Purim Festival at CAI. Come to think of it, three things. CAI Men's Club will be working the kitchen during the festival.

This is a great new member event. Nothing too serious. Just a bunch of guys cooking, laughing and serving good food to the congregation.

It's the most fun you'll have making a burger, dog, or the concotion we call "Haman's Revenge". Not exactly sure what's in it but the FDA has barely approved it for comsuption.

So join us in the kitchen on Sunday, March 4, 10:30 am (first shift). We'll be there till clean up at 3 pm.

Men's Club Feeds the People at Purim Festival

On Sunday, February 28, the CAI Men's Club kept the burgers, hotdogs, hamantaschen and beverages flowing at the 2010 Purim Festival. The Festival, organized by the Agudath Israel Sisterhood, featured carnival games, arts and crafts, a magic demonstration, beer tasting and ventriloquist show. And with all that entertainment the crowd worked up quite an appetite!

The Men's Club would like to acknowledge Ken Levitt for purchasing all the food, Harvey Hershkowitz and Alan Gerberg for running the cash box, Randy Krasner, Michael Simon, Steve Eitman, Larry Dodyk and Gary Berger for running the grill, and all our volunteers for plating and delivering the food during this very successful event. Happy Purim!

Men's Club General Meeting - Tuesday, January 12

The Men's Club of Congregation Agudath Israel will hold its monthly general meeting on Tuesday, January 12 at 8 pm in the CAI conference rooms.

On the agenda will be:

• A recap of the December Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament and January 10th Blood Drive



• Preparation for the David Schenker (Washington Institute) talk in February



• An update on Men's Club involvement in the Purim Festival



• Discussion of a possible tour of the new Jets/Giants Stadium in the spring



• Jewish Chaplains Monument at Arlington National Cemetery



• Other March events

Men's Club at the CAI Purim Festival

The CAI Men's Club played a very active part in the synagogue's Purim Festival on Sunday, March 8th. Our job actually started on Saturday night, March 7th, when we helped set up, build and paint carnival booths for this annual event. Heading out for liquid refreshment at the CloverLeaf afterwards was ample incentive to do some heavy lifting. (It should be mentioned that the Men's Club, as well as all CAI committees, took a two-year hiatus from this event due to the renovation project.) Games, new and old, were put on display, like the famous Win-a-Fish ping-pong game (where we only lost about four goldfish over the two days) and Hang Haman, where you have to knock a Satan doll off its chair so that it be hung in effigy. Violent? Yes, but we're talkin' 'bout Haman here. A hearty yasher koach to all who helped out on Erev Carnival, but especially to our foreman Mike Chaiet (pictured at left with Steve Jacobs) who pushed through some back pain to lead the construction.

On Sunday, it was "go" time.

The Men's Club, as it always does, did its best damage in the kitchen. Two shifts of grillmeisters flipped burgers, dogs and veggie burgers for the hungry crowd. With the help of cashiers Alan Gerberg (pictured) and Harvey Hershkowitz, we "moved meat", and scored some profits for the Men's Club.

Kitchen captains Jay Baranker and Michael Simon should be commended with running a tight, clean kitchen. Steve Eitman, Randy Krasner, Mitch Gladstein and Harvey Schenker also get a tip of the Hammantaschen as their grillmanship was top notch. (Make sure to swing by next year to sample Steve's new experi-, I mean, dish, which is being called everything from Mordechai's Mish-Mash to Haman's Revenge.

We look forward to participating in next year's Purim Festival with its new attractions...and recipes. Thanks to all who volunteered, and to the CAI Sisterhood, for spearheading this grand event.

The Men's Club Wants You...for Purim Festival!

The Men's Club plays a big part in the Purim festivities at Agudath Israel, and we could use your help! We are looking for volunteers to help with the carnival set up (Saturday night, March 7, followed by cold beverages at the Cloverleaf Tavern on Bloomfield Avenue) and people to run the carnival games and help us cook in the kitchen on Sunday, March 8, the day of the festivities. The carnival will run from 11 am to 2:45 pm.
